Description

Apple's Mac OS X Installer uses "Bill of Materials" (BOM) files to determine which files to install, update, or remove. A BOM file contains files that have been installed and information about each file. BOM files for installed packages are located by default in the /Library/Receipts/boms directory.

It guides users through the installation process, extracts files from installer packages, and copies the files to the appropriate installation directories. In Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6, Installer is located at /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app.
