Subdirectory

Example: "In Mac OS X, the Utilities folder is a subdirectory of the Applications folder."

A subdirectory, or subfolder, is a folder that is nested within another folder. Subdirectories are used to organize files and folders, which makes it easy to navigate to different files stored on a computer. While each operating system creates its own series of predefined subdirectories, you can also create new folders, which can be used to organize data in whatever way makes sense to you.
