What is an RTE file?

Answer: If you find an unknown file on your computer with the file type listed as RTE, it may be an RTEncoded file. These files typically have an .RTE file extension. For more information about RTE files and what programs open them, view the .RTE File Extension entry.

RTE also stands for Runtime Environment, which is used to describe the state of a running program. Therefore, an RTE file could also be the output of a program while it is running or may be the program itself. If it is a program written in Java, opening the file should run the program automatically as long as the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is installed on your computer.
