Lots to Say
June 22, 2000 — by Per Christensson
I have a lot too say this week, so this update might be a little longer than what you're used to. First of all, sorry about the long time since my last update. I've been getting home around 8:00 almost every weeknight, which hasn't left me much time to work on everybody's favorite web site, Sharpened.net. However, I have been learning a lot of web programming stuff at my job; especially JavaScript and cookies. I have so many things I want to do with my new web programming skills, but I just don't have time to do it. I suppose I could at least fill you in on my ideas...
Sometime, in the not so distant future, I am going to revamp the entire design of Sharpened.net. This is going to take a ton of time, especially since my current web site was not built very dynamically. I am also going to allow personalization of the site. Using my JavaScript abilities, I am going to allow you to specify your name, the background color/image, the link colors, and other fun stuff. That will be cool.
Another new technology that I'm planning on using is Cascading Style Sheets, which will make the formatting of each page much more uniform and easy to manage. I'm also going to add some dynamic content, probably using ASP or JSP pages, and I might switch my glossary definitions from straight HTML files to a database. Finally, I may add some cool animations using Adobe LiveMotion.
As you can see, I have a lot planned for the site. I'm just waiting for Adobe GoLive 5.0 to be released so I can make some of these visions a reality. In fact, I have been privileged to be accepted as a beta tester for GoLive 5.0, and I'm using a beta version right now. It is 100% awesome. Well, that's all for now. Hopefully, it won't be too long before my next update.
