The Browser Results Are In

September 20, 2006 — by Per Christensson

After 108 votes, Firefox emerged as the most popular Web browser among Sharpened.net users. While it was a narrow victory (42 to 39 votes, or 38.89% to 36.11%), it shows that Firefox has certainly made some inroads into the IE-dominated browser market during the past few months. Also surprising was Safari, which had 15 or 13.89% of the total votes. That is a pretty high number considering Safari is only available on the Mac and the Macintosh market share is estimated to be 4.35%.

So what does this mean? Well, it could mean that Firefox and Mac users are more likely to vote using online polls. After all, I never claim that the Sharpened.net polls are scientifically accurate. However, it may be evidence that both the Firefox browser and the Macintosh platform are gaining market share and popularity. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues and how Microsoft responds to it.

On a related note, the new poll asks what your favorite operating system is. Are you a diehard Windows user, or do you swear by the Mac? Maybe you are a techie and prefer using Unix whenever you can. Whatever the case is, now is the time to cast your vote in the Sharpened.net poll!
