Learn How to Type Faster

February 2019 — Tip of the Month

Are you a fast typer? Or have you always been on the slow side? Maybe you never had formal typing lessons and your natural typing style is the "hunt and peck" technique. Perhaps you've resigned yourself to the fact you are a slow typer and will never type as fast as other people.

If you use a computer on a regular basis, slow typing can significantly affect your productivity. But there's good news! It's not too late to learn how to type faster. There are several software programs and online courses that teach you how to type correctly — and more quickly.

It may take a few days, weeks, or even months to retrain your fingers to press different keys, but the results are worth the effort. You'll learn to type more efficiently, which will make typing less of a chore and will help you be more productive.

Most typing courses start by having you type a line or paragraph of sample text. This will give you a baseline typing speed, which is typically measured in words per minute (WPM). If you're on the slow side — 20 to 30 WPM, the good news is there is a lot of room for improvement. If you can get to 50 WPM, that means you'll be typing 100% faster!

Now that you're curious what your typing speed is, search for "typing test" and see for yourself.
