Description

Cursor animation used by Windows, such as the spinning hourglass; default ANI files are included with the Windows operating system; custom animated cursors can be downloaded from third-party developers and are often installed with custom desktop themes.

ANI files are similar to .CUR files, but include multiple images used for animation.

On March 31, 2007, Microsoft issued a Security Advisory regarding a vulnerability in the way Windows handles animated cursor files; the issue affects Windows 2000 through Windows Vista; a Security Update is available from the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-017 Web page.
