Text file used for documenting source code written in the Perl programming language; uses basic syntax that can be easily parsed and read in source code format; POD stands for "Plain Old Documentation."

POD documentation can be saved as a POD file but can also be written within Perl source code. POD files are used for documenting publicly released Perl modules and for the Perl help manual, also called the Perl manpages.
