SND files were a popular sound format in Mac OS Classic (Mac OS 9 and earlier). They were most often used for sound effects and other short sound clips.
The Macintosh Sound Resource format is no longer a standard format in Mac OS X, but SND files can still be played back using QuickTime Player.
