Use LED Lighting

November 2019 — Tip of the Month

Lighting can completely change the feel of a room or space. Poor lighting can make even the most grandiose room look dull, while proper lighting can make a dull room look grand. One of the quickest and cheapest ways to upgrade your home or office is to change the light bulbs.

In 2019, you can find energy-efficient LEDs in all kinds of warmth levels to suit your space. Since I don't like bright lights, regardless of the warmth, I always buy dimmable lights. This was a problem with early LEDs since they don't operate the same way as filament-based light bulbs, but many LEDs now support standard faders.

When it comes to LED lights, I prefer smart bulbs, such as Philips Hue lights, which I can change from my iPhone, computer, or home assistant (like Alexa). Smart bulbs make it easy to alter the lighting of different rooms to change the mood. For example, I often use cool white light when I need to focus, warmer light when I want to relax, and something fun like green, red, or purple light when I watch a movie. From my experience, smart bulbs fade more naturally than standard dimmable LED lights as well.

If you're unhappy with how your home or office feels, try some new LED lights before remodeling. It might be the only change you need.
