Description

The yEnc encoding method is used for encoding files that are sent over Usenet and e-mail protocols. It converts binary files into an 8-bit extended ASCII text files, which can be read by e-mail and news reader programs.

yEnc is similar to the Base-64 and Uuencode encoding methods, but creates smaller file sizes since it uses less overhead. The format also includes a CRC checksum that can be used to verify the integrity of the data.

yEnc files commonly have a .YNC file extension.
