Unofficial extension to the Portable Network Graphic (.PNG) format that supports animated images; contains multiple frames used for an animation sequence.

Since the first frame in a APNG file is stored as a normal PNG stream, animated PNGs are backwards compatible with most applications that support PNG files.

APNG files may also use the standard .PNG extension.
