The SMI format was a popular disk image format used in Mac OS Classic. It was used to store collections of folders and files in a single mountable archive.

SMI files could be created with Apple Disk Copy, Aladdin ShrinkWrap, or Make SMI in Mac OS 9. They are no longer used since the SMI format was replaced by the .DMG format in Mac OS X.
