An SPD file is an Acrobat .PDF file that has been sealed using Oracle's SealedMedia Sealer. It can only be opened after unsealing the document with the SealedMedia Unsealer.

The purpose of sealing a file is to prevent unauthorized users from opening the document. Therefore, only authorized users may unseal SPD files. A list of authorized users are stored on a license server, which defines who can open sealed documents.
